The Yale Connect Events module enables you to check-in event registrants by scanning their Yale IDs using a barcode reader. Follow the instructions below on what barcode reader to purchase, how to configure the hardware, and how to check-in event registrants.
Purchase a Barcode Reader
We recommend purchasing the following barcode reader, which can be used to check users into events in both Yale Connect and in Yale's Cardswipr application.
Honeywell Genesis XP 7680g Flexible Hands-Free Presentation Barcode Scanner

Program the Barcode Reader
The barcode reader can be used to scan the data in the barcode on the front of a Yale ID card.
If you purchased the recommended barcode reader above, the barcode reader will correctly read and identify the data in the barcode. However, by default, the reader only reads the data; it does not include a carriage return after reading the datapoint. This means the reader will scan the data, but it won't automatically "enter" the data in the software (e.g., Yale Connect).
To program the barcode reader to include a carriage return as a suffix after the data is read, scan the following barcode:

Information about additional scanner settings are available in the user guide.
Check-in Event Registrants
To check-in event registrants using the barcode reader to scan Yale IDs, start by opening the Dashboard and going to the Events module. Select the name of your event to open it.
Select Check-in Attendees in the top right.
Select Track Attendance with a Computer.
Plug in the barcode reader. After it has been plugged in, the attendance tracker will say Ready to Scan.
Have registrants scan their Yale ID barcodes. After each user scans, their name will appear and confirm that they are checked in.
When Enable RSVP at the door is unchecked, users who are not registered to the event will not be checked into the event when they scan their Yale ID. If your event allows unregistered users to check into the event, then check the Enable RSVP at the door checkbox.
